OUR TREE

So Tom and Sue last year took a lot of notice in the changes of the tree outside Room 12.
We decided to photograph the tree once a week and notice and record the changes as we roll through the seasons.

Photo Opportunity

On Thusrday after riding Paige and Tom got back to school a little bit early and they got to watch the Rebels rugby team training on the top field.
Afterwards there was a chance for some chat and a Tom even got given a Rebels cap from Bill Meakes.

Special visitors at R.D.A

On the last day at riding, we had some extra people come along.
Meg accompanied Brittany, and as a surprise Thomas'classroom teacher Mr Brew and Poppy's classroom teacher Miss Monaghan came for a look to see how it all works.
Seeing Mr Brew's truck arrive really made Toms face light up as he was riding around the arena.
What a great way to finish up for the year.

Long Beach

Room 5 had a terrific day at Long Beach doing various activities team building, cave exploration, treasure hunt  and rock climbing.
Tom absolutely was challenged as you most of the class but he rose to the challenge and had an amazing day.
We got to Long Beach and were greeted by windy but warm weather.
We had Tom in his off road wheelchair and got him to the rock climbing site.

Tom rode Kade and he had a great time working on stopping and starting.

Art

Tom is here finishing his work on his clay fish.
he enjoyed making all the different marks in the clay.

tom enjoyed a simple spelling game today. There us a lot we can do with the Disney Tiles.

Technology

For tech today we have made a shift to Fabrics.
Tom was absolutely blown away by all of the projects in the fabrics room.
he has chosen to make a rugby ball with blue and gold colours.
we used the pattern and pinned and cut out our fabric ready for next time.

Tom got on to his sewing machine and has begun putting his rugby ball together.
he is enjoying Fabrics and works really well.

Term 4 2019

Welcome back Thomas.

Term 4 sound like a busy and fun term.
lets make it a great term.

Thomas has started term 4 on a bit of a low, dealing with inflammation in a tooth root and of course the pain and discomfort that accompanies that.
He has not been able to eat and we have just tried to manage pain with medication sent from home and also worked to keep him comfortable and distracted from pain.
However he has worked well with his continued positive nature and has had a good start to his school work.
Tom has such a positive attitude which enables him to persevere and still have good experiences throughout the day.
He has completed his speech and we have it set up on an app called Book Creator as a way of delivery for him if he is feeling a bit overwhelmed at the time.
I find this actually gives him more confidence to do these type of things on his own anyway~ knowing he has a choice.

He also started off his Riding for Disabled in week 1.
I felt his excitement as we were getting out of the taxi.
He had a real sense of pride and took it upon himself to introduce everyone. I felt he was saying to me "this is my place" It was so awesome.
He had a great ride and overall loved the day.

Wearable Arts

Tom participated in the School Wearable Arts show.
he was in the group named Fantasy Star Gazers.

He made a mask and painted it black. it was Darth Vader.
he had a great time performing on the stage at Otago Boys High School for the  Matinee .

Fitness Cards

Today Mrs Wylie had some fitness cards from her Fun Family Focus bag.
We thought we would adapt some of the cards with Tom and make up his own fitness cards.

Tom chose the cards he felt he could adapt.
He showed great mental flexibility doing this and also some pretty good physical strength.
Well done Tom!
